MONTHLY SUPPORT MEETINGS

 

We meet at 7:00 pm the first Wednesday of each month in a secure online environment via Zoom.

To attend a meeting, email us at portlandmainepflag@gmail.com.  We send a reminder email the weekend prior to which you will need to REPLY to request the confidential link.  The link is different each month, and we email it out to those who have RSVP's by the Tuesday evening the night before the support group meeting.  [We are hoping to streamline this process soon...stay tuned!]

 

WHAT TO EXPECT AT A MEETING:

 

  • We quietly greet newcomers and returning members.

  • We open the meeting reading the PFLAG mission statement and stressing to all the requirement of confidentiality.  "What is said here stays here."

  • We announce any upcoming events involving our Portland PFLAG chapter.

  • We introduce ourselves and briefly explain why we are attending the meeting. Newcomers can participate to the degree they feel comfortable.

  • We open the support part of the meeting to any topic that attendees wish to discuss: concerns, dilemmas, struggles, joys or insights.

  • In the past, when meetings could be in person, some meetings would feature a speaker or panel discussion during the second hour.  That may return after the pandemic has been brought into control.

 

One-on-One SUPPORT

 

If you need help now, we have individuals who are willing to email, talk on the phone, meet for coffee...whatever makes you comfortable and provides the support you need.  We make every attempt to have someone get back to you within 48 hours.
